The Mary Reynolds tomato, a magnificent and prolific beefsteak cultivar, features a striking mango/persimmon orange color and delivers a delectably sweet and rich flavor. Mary Reynolds, a resident of Natural Bridge, Virginia, dedicated herself to preserving this variety for an extensive period, resulting in the loss of its original name. Seeds of this exceptional tomato were generously shared by Mary Reynolds with her neighbor John R. Lewis Jr., who, in the late 1990s, further distributed them through the Seed Savers Exchange, eventually reaching William Woys Weaver. This unique heirloom variety, believed to have originated in Canada, presents large orange fruits weighing between 12 to 16 oz. With a beefsteak-type appearance, the tomatoes are round and flattened, showcasing marked ribbing at the top and undulating shoulders for larger sizes. The orange beef flesh, rich and full, houses small seed cavities containing few seeds, contributing to a delightful citrus flavor that is both fruity and sweet. The plant exhibits moderate development, regular foliage, and indeterminate growth, ensuring production well into the second half of the season. Gardeners now have the opportunity to relish the juicy and delicious fruits resulting from Mary Reynolds' dedicated efforts.
